1. What do I need to do to reserve a room? Complete the online Application Form and send it in. If you have been accepted, you will receive a confirmation e-mail giving you payment instructions so that you can pay a non-refundable holding deposit equal to one weeks rent. Please note you must list clearly a parent or guardian contact or your application will not be accepted.

2. What do I need to pay before I move in? Your holding deposit, this will be converted into your first weeks rent. On arrival you will required to pay for the security bond plus another weeks rent. The amount of the security bond is 4 weeks rent. The bond is then registered with the Residential Tenancies Authority in Queensland, in accordance with legislation.

3. Can you make any requests for flat mates to live with? Yes, from the information you supply with your application, we try and place you with people we think would be compatible. We look at your interests, age, and course being studied and consider any other issues you may have. Yes. Metro on Central wants everyone to feel comfortable and relaxed in their unit and rooms: it is an essential requirement to do well while you study. Unless you are the very last person in, I see no reason why we could not do our very best to accommodate your requests.

4. Can I have someone stay over? Occasional overnight visitors are welcome to stay at Metro on Central; however, residents will not be allowed to have more than one overnight visitor per week without management approval. There are air mattresses available in the office.

5. Is there a transport service available? Metro on Central runs a privately owned bus service dedicated to the residents. It has 7 scheduled runs starting from 07:40am until 20:15pm through-out the day from Monday to Friday. Costs of the bus passes are additional to your rent. There is also a local bus service that stops about 300 meters away from Metro on Central that goes to Australia Fair.

6. What about the electricity and internet? Electricity and internet are all included in your rent. We offer high speed broadband internet in each bedroom with a variety of usage plans to suit different needs. 3gb download is included in your rent per month.

7. Can I have a phone connected there? This is separate from your rental amount. For your phone, each student has their own private number in their room, it is a PABX (Hotel Phone) system and therefore is connected when you arrive and the office will advise you of your new number. This is a fully automated system and requires prepayment for you to be able to access outside calls. For the use of an outside line, there is a fee of $2.50 line rental per week. If you don’t use this for outgoing calls you will be able to receive incoming calls regardless.

8. What laundry facilities are there? There is a washing machine and dryer in each unit and is free to operate. It is however, connected to the units electricity, gas and water.

9. How many car park spaces are available? There are less car park spaces available than that of the number of tenants. If you wish to secure a car park space, it will be at an extra cost of $10 per week or a Semester Pass of $145.00. You will need to request for car park space on your application. If the fee for the car park is paid in full at the beginning of your lease agreement, a discount will be applied making the cost of security parking to be $6.05 per week inc GST.

10. What shops are in the area? The following shops are part of Metro on Central, there is a Video shop, Pizza / Cafe, Bottle (alcohol) shop, Fish and Chip shop, Chinese Restaurant, Sushi Bar, Hair Dresser and right next door is Aldi Grocery Store which is a large discount grocery store. Metro on Central is also located in the middle of two large shopping centers. 2.5km north is the largest factory outlet on the Gold Coast and 2.5km south is a large shopping center; both have a large variety of clothing, electrical shops, grocery stores, post offices and a variety of banks.

11. What happens if I want to leave early? If you are thinking of leaving before the date nominated in the ‘Standard Residential Tenancy Agreement’ you are required, under Queensland Law, to continue paying rent until a replacement tenant takes up residence. Management will work with you to find another tenant if you require. This is classed as breaking your contract, you will be required to pay a contract termination fee which is equal to two weeks rent for administration and re-letting costs. If you are considering breaking your lease, talk to management so you understand your rights and responsibilities.
